According to Yahoo news on Sunday 24th January, the American fast food giant McDonalds has been criticised for their incorrect use of the English language. Their 'pound saver menu' advertisement begins with "the pound, also known as a bob", which is correctly known to many of us British as a shilling, or 5p in 'new' money.
McDonald's defence for this is they say research has shown that the use of the slang term for a shilling, 'bob', is now more commonly used as a slang term for a pound. Really! Well that's inflation for you and a Big MacThank you to McDonalds for putting us British straight. For the full story see: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20100124/tuk-mcdonald-s-pounded-over-bob-menu-adv-45dbed5.html I wonder how they would defend the incorrect use of the English language in their trademark
The word 'I'm' always has a capital 'I', but that is only what I was taught, maybe McDonalds know better. Update 28th January 2010: The adverts are mysteriously disappearing.
